Rappers: All the Same?

Rap Music or Hip-Hop, whatever you prefer, has been around for almost 20 years now and I have to admit I liked it in the late 80s and early 90s. But was has become of this art form has been distasteful. Nowadays you cannot even distinguish one rapper from the other.

DMX, Ja Rule, Nelly, Ludacris and the list goes on and on... They all seem like the same carbon copies of each other, all trying to let people know the hardships they went through growing up in the "hood". Well frankly it has become tiresome, granted it is not easy to grow up in a place where guns and drugs are as common as the pavement they walk on but I would tend to think that there are other things going in their neighborhoods than that.

*Ok, let me get this straight before I get loads of hatemail sent to me. I am not saying that the city is easy to live in or that its not tough but do I have to listen to the same lyrics song after song after song. Come on now...

Im having trouble with the fact that every rapper out there is the same. Basic characteristics of rappers videos in the music industry.

  1. Bling Bling, if your a rapper that just came out with their first single and are parading around the video with "ice", you look dumb, no one believes you and it just doesnt look right. Seasoned rappers, obviously you have money and you can spend it on fun things like that.
  2. Strippers, putting fifty half-naked girls in your video does not make people buy your record. But if I had the oppurtunity to hang out with 50 girls, even if they pretend to like me, Im not going to complain. So thats understandable.
  3. Cars, putting rented cars in your video is hardly "cool".
  4. Typical rappers, DMX, Ja Rule, Nelly, Ludacris, Nas, Fabolous...blah blah..all rap about getting girls and making money. ZZZzzzzzz...

So maybe that is not the reason why you listen to rap music. Perhaps it is because it has good beats or it pumps you up for a long night of partying. Well isnt that what music is supposed to do? It is, my argument is that there are way too many people out there pretending to be something their not and then copying someone else that already presented it.

Basically get some style and originality, hearing you came from the ghetto and are now the richest person in the world is boring and old. I would suspect with all that money you made, you could buy some new ideas...geez.
